Moose Draw - How to Apply

Who is eligible to apply for the Moose Hunting License Draw?

To be eligible to apply to the Moose Draw, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
  1. Be a resident of Nova Scotia
  2. Hold a Nova Scotia Wildlife Resources Card (WRC) at time of application.
  3. Have either Hunter Trained (HT/ HQ) or Bow (B) or Crossbow Trained (CT/CQ) certification on their WRC.
  4. Be 18 years of age or older by the third Monday in September.
  5. Not been a winner of the moose draw in the previous five years
  6. Not on the list of persons with a suspended hunting privilege

When to Apply

Application period is from May 8th, 2023 at noon until May 31st, 2023 at noon. Applications are accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the application period.

Moose Draw winner results will be available online on June 20 at noon.

Before you Apply

You will need:

  • Your Wildlife Resources Card ID number (First 9-digits) and PIN
  • The Moose Hunting Season and Zone in which you want to hunt
  • Confirm your current phone number, email address and mailing address are correct on your Wildlife Resources Card profile. Without current contact information, you may not receive notifications regarding your success in the draw

IMPORTANT

  • Moose Draw application fees are non-refundable
  • Applicants may apply once for motorized access hunts (Moose Management Zone 1,2,3 or 4); and once for the non-motorized access hunt (Moose Management Zone 5). Since Season 7 contains both Zone 1 and Zone 5, applicants to this season may only enter the draw once.
  • An applicant wishing to apply to both hunts must submit two separate applications and will be charged the application fee for each application.
  • If an applicant is drawn for both the regular motorized-access hunt and for the non-motorized access hunt, they must choose which hunt they would like to participate in and forfeit the other

  • Notice: NRR recognizes that the provincial Cape Breton moose hunt in a valued opportunity, especially for hunters that have entered the moose lottery for many years. We also recognize that sometimes circumstances like extreme weather events (e.g. hurricanes and storms) and unexpected health related issues of hunters or family members can cause disruptions that may interfere with hunting opportunities. These events are often unavoidable and cause concerns to hunters however, once a moose license is purchased, NRR is unable to refund or provide replacement licenses for these unexpected events.
